Bailee’s Customer Insurance
When customers give your business their property, they’re also giving you their trust that it’s in good hands. Bailee’s Customer Insurance can help to back up that trust with coverage against loss, damage, or destruction of the customer’s property while it’s in your possession.
Who Needs Bailee’s Customer Insurance?
While General Liability Insurance can cover damage to a business’ property, it generally does not cover customer property. A business that regularly takes possession of customer property, like a dry cleaner or a valet parking service, is said to be holding that property “in bailment”.
The bailee, or the business, is responsible for returning the property to the bailor, or customer in at least the same condition as it was received. As an example: if a customer drops off their car at an auto shop, their car is temporarily under the control of the bailee. If the car is damaged or stolen while in the care of the shop, bailee’s customer insurance can cover the loss.
What Does Bailee’s Customer Insurance Cover?
Generally speaking, Bailee’s Customer Insurance can protect your business from liability for damage to customer property from:
- Fire
- Flood or other water damage
- Traffic accidents
- Theft
- Explosion
- Lightning
Not all policies are created equal, of course. Some can cover damage to customer property by you or your employees, some can cover property that is lost for mysterious reasons, and some coverage can even replace your customer’s property with substantially identical property in the event of a loss. Our agents can work with you to find a policy that suits your business and the customers you serve.
